Copypix, Pictures needed? Watch out for the trap!

Using a protected image

How do you ask for authorisation?

When you want to reproduce a protected image, all you have to do is contact the photographer/creator or the publishing rights society, such as SABAM.

Requests for authorisation can be sent to the photographer/creator or to SABAM by e-mail, post or fax.

What conditions are laid down?

The conditions attached to authorisation are generally as follows:

How can I find out what amount in rights I have to pay?

SABAM’s rates in force in Belgium are available in paper format from SABAM’s head office and in electronic format on the website www.sabam.be.

When authorisation for reproduction is sent, the approximate copyright amount for which provision should be made is passed on if the information available so permits.

Are there indemnities?

In the event of failure to meet the conditions for authorisation or in the case of no request for authorisation having been made, the photographer/creator, the assignee or SABAM can demand a compensation calculated according to the loss or damage incurred by the photographer/creator.
